We developed an evergreen identity system for the Singapore International Film Festival, building on SGIFF’s role as a bridge between stories and perspectives from around the world. We use the knot as a metaphor for bringing different points of view together: to tie, weave, and connect. It also evokes the act of navigating cinematic terrain, with rope and knot tying as tools for navigating landscapes and seas, particularly resonant in Southeast Asia.
Drawing from topology and knot theory, we see cinema as a medium that reveals an ever-changing world through the enduring form of film. The trefoil knot, the simplest non-trivial knot, becomes our core visual motif, reflecting cinema’s ability to hold different stories and perspectives together across time and place.
Special thanks to Wilfred Castillo, our collaborator on this project, who provided brand consultation and design implementation.
