Lee Wen — Journey of a Yellow Man

Project
Journey of a Yellow Man: Selected Materials from the Independent Archive
Client
NTU-CCA
Year
2018

Journey of a Yellow Man: Selected Materials from the Independent Archive is a special exhibition drawn from the Independent Archive and presented alongside the launch of its Digital Resource Platform, accompanied by a directory we designed. The cover features a squiggly line—conceived as a “silly” line in contrast to the straight, utilitarian line—reflecting the earnest yet playful way Lee Wen confronted bureaucratic conventions. The line also subtly references his spine, alluding to the bodily presence central to his practice and to the scoliosis noted by Ray Langenbach, while the interior spreads adopt a more restrained, utilitarian design aligned with the organizational logic of an archive.
