Ming Wong: Wayang Spaceship

Project
Ming Wong – Wayang Spaceship
Client
Singapore Art Museum
Year
2022

The design for the installation Wayang Spaceship by artist Ming Wong draws from traditional wayang stagecraft, using linear perspectives to construct a false depth of field—akin to painted backdrops that simulate spatial illusion. Iridescent colour shifts and repeated images of the artist reference the installation’s use of dichroic film, echoing its interplay of light, reflection, and multiplicity.

Extending the exhibition’s time-travelling premise, the flyer unfolds into a poster that is read by turning it around, creating a non-linear viewing experience that mirrors the work’s movement across past, present, and future.
