Monographs is a series of commissioned essays on Asian cinema conceived by the Asian Film Archive. We designed the logo and accompanying layout for the project.
The logotype features two slanted Os to imply that they form a singular entity, a running parallel to the definition of a monograph — a detailed written study on a single specialized subject. These Os also represent a set of eyes looking back at us, a reference to the gaze, a term that describes how we process and engage with visual media in relation to the social and political structures in our daily lives.
A classic serif typeface, Times New Roman was chosen to ground the essayistic mood of the project.
